Re: member titles
Hello,
But anyway, I don't think this is an actual debate. The "new" member descriptions are already set since almost two years now.

Erik
Junior Member = Decurion would be more logical, because a Centurion is ten times higher than a Decurion - in the Asterix comics at least (Golden Sickle, p. 19, panel 2). The Optio is just the Centurion's substitute.Bernard hat geschrieben:Newbie: Legionary.

Actually, I think that perhaps:Erik hat geschrieben:Hello,

Newbie = Auxiliary
Junior = Legionary
as it may not be appropriate for a Junior member to be an officer anyway. Moreover, I was only kidding here as I don't think that the Roman ranking system would be particularly popular anyway.

Hello Bernard,

Erik
but Auxiliary doesn't appear in the Asterix albums very often, does it?Bernard hat geschrieben:Actually, I think that perhaps:

Why not? At this moment, there are not more than 84 of the 373 members of this forum, who have got the 10 or more postings to be at least a "Junior member". So, it can't be wrong to give them some euphemistic titles.Bernard hat geschrieben:as it may not be appropriate for a Junior member to be an officer anyway.

I take it that that is what it currently stands at? But where do ones like new villager come from?Bernard hat geschrieben:AsterIX Administrator (AsterIX Chief)

Re: member titles
Well, strictly speaking the archer in Chieftain's Shield should probably have been an auxiliary as Caesar used archers from Crete for his Gallic campaigns.Erik hat geschrieben:but Auxiliary doesn't appear in the Asterix albums very often, does it?
Hehe, yes indeed.Erik hat geschrieben:Why not? At this moment, there are not more than 84 of the 373 members of this forum, who have got the 10 or more postings to be at least a "Junior member". So, it can't be wrong to give them some euphemistic titles.![]()

I was deliberately trying to avoid using 'Decurion' to avoid the confusion that might arise with the municipal magistrate (member of a city council) of the same name. Also I think that Legionary equates better with 'warrior,' my Gallic equivalent of the same rank. However, I shall remove "Optio".
